The Toblinger Knoten (2617 m) basks in the sun in front of the mighty, multi-peaked Haunold massif (2966 m) in the Italian Dolomites. During the First World War, when the front line between Italy and what was then Austria-Hungary ran right through the Dolomites, the Toblinger Knoten was of great strategic importance and was fortified with numerous positions. The remains of the former war routes have since been converted into modern climbing routes.
