Here we are at the high camp of the Alpamayo (5947 m, mountain in the background) at approx. 5400 m in the Cordillera Blanca in Peru. Some people claim that the Alpamayo is the most beautiful mountain on earth. However, this is a matter of taste.
The Alpamayo is very remote and all the climbs are long and demanding. We reached the foot of the mountain after a two-day hike. After a night at base camp and a second night at the higher Camp 1, we reached the high camp shown in the picture. We climbed to the summit in a challenging ice climb through the gully in the direct fall line of the summit.
